BEATRICE CASAGRÁN

Ophelia’s Jump Productions

Beatrice Casagrán (she/her) is a Cuban American actor, stage director, and artistic director.  Beatrice co-founded Ophelia’s Jump Productions in 2012 with a mission to create thought-provoking theatre that provides opportunity for underrepresented artists and arts workers. Casagrán has led Ophelia’s Jump to milestones such as the 2014 launching of the annual Claremont Midsummer Shakespeare Festival co-produced with Pomona College at the Sontag Greek Theater each July.

In 2019, Beatrice was honored as a Person of Distinction by Assembly member Chris Holden. Beatrice is a member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers and Actors' Equity Association. As Vice President of the Theatre Producers of Southern California, Beatrice worked on the core team that helped secure $50 million in funding and sponsored legislation to help small nonprofit performing arts organizations with payroll funding and labor compliance. Beatrice continues to advocate for government funding and support of historically under-resourced BIPOC organizations and artists.

Ophelia’s Jump is a non-profit regional theatre company based in Claremont and performing in Claremont and Upland. Ophelia’s Jump Productions was founded in 2013 by women and queer artists and educators who believe that the purpose of theatre is to create unending conversations, spark imagination, incite conscience, and elicit a visceral response. We aim to invigorate the creativity and intellect of our community by working with local and regional artists to tell compelling stories and educate new generations of theatre lovers.

Ophelia’s Jump Productions believes in centering the stories of diverse voices and the work of diverse artists and that presenting under-represented points of view promotes empathy between people of differing backgrounds, engenders critical thinking, and encourages creative problem-solving. We want to cultivate our community’s cultural landscape by opening meaningful access to theatre for all by removing or reducing socio-economic, physical, and language barriers.
